The C6 XLT is the newest of Celestron’s Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes and debuted in 2005. The Celestron C6 SCT VX GOTO package uses Celestron’s C6 XLT optical tube, a 6” (150mm) f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain with a resulting focal length of 1500mm. If you aren’t doing that, the Celestron NexStar 6SE and NexStar Evolution 6” are much more beginner and budget-friendly options for the C6 XLT and a GoTo mount, though, as always, Dobsonian telescopes are by far our favorite choice when it comes to value for your money and ease of use. The best reason to buy the C6 and Advanced VX bundle is probably if you are interested in both items separately and wish to interchange another optical tube on the Advanced VX and put the C6 XLT on a more convenient and lightweight mount of some kind.
However, the marriage of a telescope known primarily for its portability to a mount that’s designed for carrying much larger and bulkier instruments results in a package that’s rather expensive and unnecessary, despite having little in the way of actual faults. The Advanced VX is a sturdy and well-made mount (though less-than-ideal for deep-sky imaging), while the C6 XLT is an optically superb and portable telescope. The Celestron C6 SCT VX GOTO is the smallest telescope Celestron offers on their Advanced VX mount, alongside numerous reflectors, a 6” refractor, a 7” Maksutov, and larger Schmidt-Cassegrains.
